54th Annual National Skills Competition

54th Annual National Skills Competition

Congratulations to Irish Helicopters engineering apprentice Mark O'Neill who was selected to go forward for the 54th Annual National Skills Competition.

Apprentices from all over Ireland compete to be the national champion in their chosen trade. The competition aims to test every aspect of the skill and workmanship of the apprentices over an intense period of two and a half days.

Mark was pipped at the post and came second in the competition. Normally the winners of the previous year and current year compete head to head for a place on the Irish Team for the World Skills Competition. However because the competition was so close this year, Mark was selected to compete for a place on the World Skills team. He has since been placed on the reserve panel.

The selection for the National Skills Competition and then the placing on the reserve panel for the World Skills Team is a great result for Mark and is a fine reward for the hard work and dedication he has showed during his apprenticeship. It is also testament to the Engineers and Maintenance Manager at Irish Helicopters that have brought Mark through his apprenticeship teaching him the skills required on a practical level. It shows the level of professionalism and training in Irish Helicopters is second to none.

Well done to Mark and all those that have supported him through the competition.
